Vertical Lifeline System and Requirements
Vertical lifeline systems, also known as cable ladder safety systems, are critical in the fixed fall protection system for workers that use fixed ladders or any climbing surface that are part of a structure. They enable the worker to go up and down the entire height of a building or structure instead of identifying new tie-off points. A variety of system designs are available, depending on what best fits the specific tasks and job site. Since these involve high-risk tasks, finding vertical lifeline systems that meet industry requirements is crucial for the safety of workers.
If you’re looking for top-quality vertical lifeline systems, purchase them at a reliable provider of safety tools for industrial sites - SafetySam. We also provide other safety tools that help your work at heights, such as horizontal and vertical fixed systems, as well as self-retracting lifelines. Don’t settle for less when it comes to the safety of your workers. Choose high-quality vertical line systems that check all the boxes related to meeting safety requirements.
What Are the Design Requirements for Vertical Lifeline Systems?
There are two types of vertical lifeline systems, namely permanent vertical lifeline systems and temporary lifeline systems. According to the Workplace Safety and Health Guidelines in collaboration with the Ministry of Manpower, design requirements include the following:
1. Permanent Vertical Lifeline Systems
- It can be fastened to a ladder or structure at the upper and lower extremity. There should be a number of brackets installed at intervals if required by the manufacturer
- Once installed, it should be capable of being tensioned as recommended by the manufacturer
- It permits the sliding-type fall arrester to be attached and detached at points along the lifeline. This is with the exception that the sliding-type fall arrested is designed to be integrated as a whole system
- It enables the sliding-type fall arrester in an upward and downward direction without hindering movement, especially at intermediate fastenings.
- It should be secure to prevent the unintentional separation of the fall arrester from the lifeline
2. Temporary Vertical Lifeline Systems
-
It must be capable of being fastened to an overhead anchoring point as recommended by the manufacturer
-
The sliding-type fall arrester should be capable of being attached and detached at least at the lower extremity of the lifeline. This is unless the sliding-type fall arrester is designed to be integral.
-
The movement of the sliding-type fall arrester should be in an upward and downward motion without hindering movement
-
It should be secure to prevent unintentional separation of the fall arrester from the lifeline
