Despite being such a little red dot, Singapore is no stranger to controversial people.
We won’t name names here, but people with names that rhyme with “Famous Tee” and “Canton Lacey” have faced harsh, critical backlash online.

What kind of mistakes did they make?
It could have been a thoughtless statement that wounded feelings or it could have been a sustained campaign against groups of people. Whatever the offending act, the online retribution was swift and unrelenting.

The truth is, many of these infamous people didn’t intend to offend! Of course, some bad apples wanted to be abrasive on purpose. But in many cases, those people meant no harm.

All it took was one thoughtless comment that stereotyped some group of people, and the Internet mob began baying for blood. Often, migrating out of Singapore was the only way to escape.

At PDS, we also have a kind of C Culture. But we’re not about cancelling people.

While the Internet has Cancel Culture, we have Careful Culture.
